Back At Agility

We are back at agility. I have given Tilda a little break from it, I don't like to over do it. Today I set up the jumps and worked on her jumping. We are back outside. When it was winter, if I wanted to practice any jumping, I had to do it in the basement. Now we can be more spread out. I'll probably get the other equipment up soon too. Our next trial is May 20th, less than two weeks away!

Frozen

Yesterday after our walk, I was going to do some yard clean up. Well, when I went to get the pooper scooper out of the bucket where it is kept, I found this. . .

As you can tell, we have some snow here. The snow in the bucket froze around the pooper scooper :)

Fromm Pork And Applesauce

A few weeks ago or so we switched Tilda to a different kind of food. She still is eating Fromm Four Star Nutritionals. We just switched Tilda from the Duck and Sweet Potato to the Pork and Applesauce. She was still eating her Duck and Sweet Potato fine and she liked it. We just thought we would try something different. You are supposed to be able to switch between the different kinds of Four Star Nutritionals without a problem. Tilda seems to like the Pork and Applesauce and still eats good.

This is Tilda in the Pork and Applesauce bag after I put the food in the container.

The Vet

It was time for Tilda to go into the vet, so on Friday we took her in. She needed to have some routine stuff done. But she also has had a little limp. Not all the time, just some of the time. Well, that ended up to be fine, nothing was found. Second, she had a bump on her back end. When we were there, we decided to get it tested. When the bump was poked into to take blood, it ended up only having gooey stuff in it. It was similar to a big pimple, not exactly though. So everything turned out fine. However, Tilda's teeth are kinda dirty. The vet suggested getting her chews and bigger bites of food are better, because the chewing on hard food helps clean teeth. I don't know though about the food, because she is eating a health food and eats so much better than she used to. On Saturday I pulled out a bone for Tilda and she did chew on it. But since she is not a puppy, she doesn't chew like she used to. On Sunday we got two other things to try. I tried one of the teeth cleaning treats and Tilda seemed to like it. She ate it pretty fast though, I'd like something she really has to gnaw on. Today we tried the other tooth cleaning treat. Tilda also seemed to like it and seemed to have to gnaw on it more than the one I gave her the other day. We might get her bigger treats, so she has to chew on them more. I'm also trying to brush her teeth more often.

Trial Results

We were at an agility trial today. Here are our agility trial results:

Tilda: In Open Standard Tilda Q'd with 100 points and took first! We had 69 seconds to run it in and our time was 58.35 seconds. In Open Jumps With Weaves Tilda NQ'd, she had two refusals and I don't know what her time was. The first refusal was that she didn't take a jump, but it might have been my fault. I was going to do a rear cross, but I think I was over to far and that pushed her out. The other refusal was that she came back out of a tunnel. In the standard course she didn't go down on the table. Even though there is no sit or down on the table, I still like her to go down. The table was close, on the counting that is, almost left the table too soon :)

Buddy: In Open Standard and Open Jumps With Weaves Buddy NQ'd. He wasn't a big fan of the tunnels and the chute today :) Buddy also didn't run real fast, he needs some drive :)

Gracie: In Open Standard and Open Jumps With Weaves Gracie NQ'd too. In Standard on the table, Gracie jumped on and then off, and left the table too soon.

A Day At Buddy And Gracie's House

Today we were at Buddy and Gracie's house. Tilda of course played with Buddy and Gracie, but she also met their neighbors puppy. Tilda did very good with her. She is a shepherd mix and six months old, but she isn't very big.

Practiced some agility with Tilda at their house too. Which also included messing around trying to figure out what would help with Tilda's jumping problem. We figured out that if we laid a jump bar on the ground in front of the jump, Tilda jumped much better. The idea was to have her jump between the bar on the ground and the jump. I think we found a good distance between the jump and the bar on the ground.

Another thing we tried, was putting a jump bar on the top of a jump. So she had to jump through the two bars. It made her slow down instead of just taking off. This was just two of the things we tried, we tried more than that :)

Tomorrow we will be at a trial. Check back for results :)

Is This Tilda Proof? - Uncle Stripes

I got this toy in the mail from Tilda's breeder almost two months ago. It was a fun surprise. Who doesn't like getting something fun in the mail? :)  Tilda really likes this toy and so does Buddy.

This is what Uncle Stripes looked like when he arrived in the mail.

It started with a small rip/hole (this rip/hole used to be smaller, it grew over time.)

This came from the squeaker. Uncle Stripes has three loud squeakers. But now only two of the squeakers work. Also remember, Buddy really liked squeaking this toy. So maybe he helped out :) This part came from the rip/whole spot.

It's hard to tell in this picture, but there is a small hole behind his eye.

Overall look.

Uncle stripes is not in the best condition now, but not in terrible shape either. And remember, Tilda has had Uncle Stripes for almost two months. So, when you think about it, he really isn't in that bad a shape.

This toy is Tilda proof!

Tilda, Gracie, and Buddy

Buddy loved one of Tilda's toys so much. He kept squeaking it. I'll have to put a video of him squeaking it on here. I still have to do a "Is This Tilda Proof" post with this toy. So, can't give out too much info about this toy :)

Buddy And Gracie Trial Results

Buddy and Gracie were at an agility trial yesterday. I decided not to do this trial with Tilda. I don't want to over do Tilda with agility trials. Want to keep it fresh and fun for her.

Buddy: In Open Standard Buddy Q'd and took first place with 85 points! In Open Jumps With Weaves Buddy NQ'd. Buddy needs one more Q in Standard then he will have his Standard title.

Gracie: In Novice Standard Gracie Q'd, took first with 90 points, and got her Novcie Standard Title!! In Open Jumps With Weaves Gracie NQ'd because of a knocked jump bar.

Nail Clipping

This is how I clip Tilda's nails. I lay her down on her back and clip away. She doesn't mind it now, but it wasn't always this easy.

When we got Tilda, we were shown how to clip her nails. Of course, at that time, Tilda behaved nicely. At home when we decided we should clip her nails, that was a different story. She was a little wiggle worm. And then, besides the fact that Tilda wasn't sure about what we were doing, you have to remember that I was getting used to the idea of clipping her nails. We tried putting the clipper on the floor with treats, trying to make it a good thing. When we tried to clip her nails we used really good treats. We tried wrapping her up in a towel and just sticking one paw out at a time to be clipped.

Eventually, my sister and I got it done. I had my sister hold her on her back, while I clipped. In the process of that clipping, we treated and praised her. I think what really helped her though, was that we would pretend to clip her nails. We pretended a lot. Thanks to her breeder for the tip!

As you can see in the picture, I now don't need anyone to help me hold her down. And she now really only gets a treat at the end of nail clipping.

There was a time, a little over a year ago, when we started having trouble again with clipping them. She seemed kind of scared. The first day that happened again, my sister and I did get them clipped, but we had to work with her more. You can find those adventures on here in the Feb 2010 section.

But of course we overcame that. Now, as you saw, Tilda will lay on her back for me. It is nice that it isn't a big deal now, since I clip them once a week.

JWW Video

Sorry this video is a little late. It is the jumps with weaves run from the trial we did on 2/26/11.

The video does not start right at the beginning of the course. It might look like just one or two jumps was all that wasn't in the video, but it was more than that.

Buddy And Gracie

Friday through Monday we were dog sitting Buddy and Gracie. We will actually be dog sitting them again in a week. They are pretty easy to have around. And of course, they play with Tilda. They play pretty rough with each other. Tilda is kind of the bully of the bunch :) She will go up to Gracie and just push her right down and walk right over her. Tilda will also bat at Gracie with her paws. They have fun playing though. Maybe when we have them, I'll take some pictures and videos.

2/26/2011 Agility Trial Video - Standard Run

Sorry for the delay on the video :) I don't have the Jumps with Weaves video at this time.
